I was using Blogspot to publish my blog for a few years. I thought it might be a good idea to move my blog to my website. I gave it a try but I do not like the format, so I'm back at Blogspot. The link is on my home page and right here..... http://myowlfriends.blogspot.com
We are having a spectacular fall here in Colorado. So I thought a great way to spend the day was to go out photographing. I decided to go Pella Crossing park in Hygiene. I had been there once or twice a few years ago. So I thought it would be fun to explore this area. There are 3 different ponds on one side of the road. And 2 more ponds on the west side of 75th St. so I had lots to explore.
All the birds I saw were familiar to me but still fun to photograph. The widgeons and scaup are familar sights at my favorite spot in Lakewood. But I always need more pics of these guys. I bet you are wondering why there are robins in Colorado in November. Well, the robins that live in colorado have gone south for the winter. Then we get the robins from Canada for the winter. It is fun to see robins all winter long. While books are a good way to learn things about wildlife, observing them is also a great learning experience. I wondered why the widgeons were hanging out with the coots and the redhead ducks. After a few minutes of watching, I saw why. The widgeons are dabbling ducks, meaning they stay on the surface of the water. The redheads and coots are diving birds meaning they submerge themselves to get food. So the widgeons wait while the others go get food and then all shared. There was no fighting.....they all just helped out each other. A good example for us humans. Well, Pella Crossing was fun so I will go back soon. I decided to stop by Twin Lakes to see if my owl friends were around. Yup! As soon as I turned onto the trail by their nest, there was Sonny napping. I said hi and got a couple of pics. He looked like he was sound asleep but I knew better. A squirrel or other small rodent scurried under his tree and he was instantly alert. He then acknowledged me an went back to sleep. What a fun day! As you may notice, I moved my blog to my website. I think I can still post it on FB but not sure it can get e-mailed out. Hopefully I can get this figured out soon! FYI- if you click on the pics, you can enlarge them. |
